We had a wonderful day at Odawara! It was warm & a bit cloudy so we had the beach almost to ourselves. It was a rocky beach with no sand, just smaller rocks.... It was a good day!
Happy 40th birthday Casey! We spent the day in Akihabara - electric town. Casey had a blast looking at all the video games, board games and everything in between! We finished the day with his birthday dinner at a Hawaiian restaurant. Miles even found an ice cube that fits his thumb!
Another day, another shikansen ride! We rode Molly and Miles' favorite train - the E5 to Omiya. There is a huge train museum there. It was a fun filled day with trains, trains, and more trains! The bottom left is the first shikansen from 1964.
Well, the Emperor and Empress weren't taking visitors, so we decided to walk around in their yard instead. Not to mention, eat some yummy ice cream at one of the "Rest" houses...
We went to Nagoya castle the other day. We got there a just before close, so it was a quick tour. It was completed in 1612 for Ieyasu Tokugawa to help defend from attacks from Osaka. This has been rebuilt since WW2. The golden dolphin is called Kinsachi. Also, they had a interactive exhibit to see if you could move one of the rocks used in the walls. No one person could. However, working together as a team, they were able to move it maybe a millimeter...
Here is Mt. Fuji. We were able to see it from the shikansen bullet train on our way to Nagoya. Most of the snow has melted since it is early summer here. It was very exciting to see it since all depends on how clear the day is. When we went to Osaka, it was too hazy and we didn't see it at all.
I have never seen so many different kinds of toilets! There is the Japanese style which basically is a hole in the ground. There are western toilets like we are used to. There are western toilet seats which can be heated and have a bidet attachment. (I love a heated seat!) Then there automatic flushing toilets. Toilets that you have to touch a button on the wall to flush. Everywhere we have been, there has been a different toilet combination. But, this was a toilet I had never seen. When you flush, the spigot on top pumps out water for hand washing. So clever!
